‘What if, I was a.. ‘

For nearly a decade now, every September they have an event. While I enthusiastically looked forward to it, I no longer do it, until about 3 or may be 4 years ago. Yep, Apple’s iPhone announcement event, where most of the news are conveniently ’leaked’ online long before the day. From the past couple of years or more, it’s being shot outdoors at the Apple park with some or major portions inside the studio, most likely with a green background(I may be wrong). Anyway, I want to talk about something that I felt, rather silly and this probably isn’t from this year. When talking about the mail app improvs, they talk about sending birthday messages to contacts via mail. I mean, come on, who does that really? In today’s scenario, no one cares for your birthday except for yourself(alright, if you’re lucky may be your wife and children would) and If you care enough to wish people on their birthday, why not do it via phone call or text message. The contacts app has so many fields that you can modify and save, but how many genuinely make it a point to update the email id, address, birthdays, etc. In case you didn’t sense it, I’m not trying to be a pessimist here, it’s on a lighter note, but also, very true though.

Anyhow, moving on, have you ever thought of ‘Wish I was a ….’ an alternative profession. Here are a few that I admire and if we ever go back in time, I’d certainly consider them. A Barista, Disc Jockey, Columnist for either a magazine or newspaper, Violinist. I should stop here, cause the list could go on, but that’s not in any order of preference though. For the benefit of doubt, I’m not influenced by Bollywood movies or KJo’s movies, but I genuinely like the mentioned professions. Just imagine, being a violinist who’s part of a band, playing at a live orchestra in a famous arena, say Madison Square Garden in NYC or the O2 Arena in London. Being a columnist for a magazine, readers are waiting to get their hand on the magazine and read your article on every edition. Of course, none of them are easily accessible/achievable and to be able to establish a successful career is more challenging than doing whatever that we are doing today. Alright, back to reality, I’m content with my current profession/career. But, I may pick up the above as hobbies, wouldn’t hurt trying. Already, googling the best violin to buy. Good luck Alekhya, might as well order a set or two, of ear plugs, you know what I mean.

So, something weird happened today, definitely not the first time, happened numerous times that I no longer care. I was out for a walk, in the evening, after work. On my way back home, I was lost in thoughts as usual(mostly thinking about next meal or the lunch next day), on the side walk and noticed this other person about a hundred feet away or so. You know how the typical side walks are here, two people can’t really walk side by side, unless they’re HH(holding hands) or one person is on a piggy back of another(cheesy). Anyway, so I saw this stranger walking towards me, I automatically stepped off so as to be courteous and not be rude, so that he could pass. This stranger, instead of, let alone courtesy, nodding or smiling, wouldn’t even bother raising an eye brow and was walking by as if he owns the place and right in the middle of the sidewalk. I mean, what was that? I kept thinking, what if I didn’t move just like the stranger? Would we have just bumped into each other and have fallen down? Cause he wasn’t gonna move and imagine if I didn’t. Like how weird is that? I often notice this during my runs as well. Some people are just too welcoming and smiling, while some of them display the same royalty and walk as if the park is theirs. They would be walking their dog, and then there would be another person walking two of their dogs, like, where am I supposed to run? That’s one reason, I run mostly on the streets and limit to a loop in the park, everyone’s happy! But then, I wouldn’t get to write this, there by you won’t have anything to read.

All of this previous year(2022), I was just looping on two tracks. Not literally, obviously! But, every time I was preoccupied or have had a stressful day, these are my go-to tracks though. Promo song from Ante Sundaraniki and Kesariya Dance Mix from Brahmastra. Two completely different songs, but they sort of uplift my mood, even to this day. They have a certain chill vibe, it’s just impossible to not groove to them. The promo song has casual lyrics and a celebratory kind of theme to it. Kesariya is more of a love song, but the dance mix gives it a different vibe altogether. If you had watched the video, I had an observation to point out. The song is shot on the banks of the Ganges, with lyrics primarily calling out the kesariya rang(Saffron color), but they conveniently slid a step that looks almost like a ‘salaam’. While it blends with the choreography and I don’t have anything against it, they could’ve chosen something else too. But, they had to add it, didn’t they? I mean, #JustSaying.

While there are so many songs, a lot of them over the past few years are just too monotonous, enjoying the very few that actually stand out. And as we heard it way too often that the learning never stops, it’s never too late to learn anything new. So, on that note, I’ll end this one here. Please comment any other professions that excite you and you keep thinking, what if?

Later,
Dev
